Lawn owners know how much time it takes to enjoy a beautiful, green carpet. As it turns out, lawn care is not just about regular mowing and watering. How do you take care of a lawn and what rules do you have to follow?

Mowing lawns is a demanding activity that must be kept regular. We often hear from owners who say that the lawn only needs to be mown once every two to three weeks

However, if you want to enjoy thick greenery, you should repeat mowing every five to seven days. This behavior is especially conducive to growth if you cut the grass no more than ⅓ of its height. How else should we take care of the grass?

Watering and fertilizing

It is advisable to water the lawn in the morning or in the afternoon. If the lawn is exposed to constant sunlight, watering it on such a day can burn the grass.

The best situation would be to water lawns a few days apart, and during extremely hot temperatures every day. The soil should be watered to a depth of several inches. This means that sprinkling must not take a moment, but at least several minutes

An essential treatment for stimulating grass growth is fertilization. Potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium are essential for green growth. The market offers us fertilizers to be applied once a month, once every 100 days and once a season.

There are special fertilizers with regenerative, densifying or moss-removing properties. You can find the right fertilizer by following the advice of the staff in the store. Each product has its own specific dosage, so make sure that your movements are correct so as not to damage your lawn

Scarifying

A treatment that is sure to improve the quality of your lawn is scarifying. The process is designed to remove the compacted layer of dead turf by cutting it with a sharp knife. Before scarifying, you need to prepare accordingly. First of all, the treatment should be carried out in spring and autumn. In addition, the grass on which you will work should be dry and cut

Small areas of greenery can be handled with handheld scarifiers. More spacious lawns will require electric or diesel equipment that has the ability to reach much deeper. The final step is to collect the felt using a rake to be 100% sure that the dead turf has been thoroughly collected

This is a long-term method, so do not expect results immediately afterwards. Now it is time to water and fertilize the soil. In spring, all-purpose fertilizers are best for this purpose, while in autumn, fertilizers designed for the autumn months will not contain nitrogen

Alternative lawn care methods

Lawn aeration, or aeration, is a method of trying to aerate the turf. This is accomplished by using pitchforks, homemade spike-like tools or professional equipment, namely aerators. The purpose of the treatment is to supply air to the deeper layers of soil. Once this is done, the grass will be nourished, hydrated and will gain in appearance. A lawn treated in this way is resistant to trampling and roots more intensively.

Sandblasting is also a way of improving the condition of the lawn and can be carried out immediately after aeration. It consists of spreading 100 liters of sand on 50m² of soil. The purpose of this is to encourage the lawn to grow better and to prevent mosses from growing on it.

The last thing that can improve the condition of the lawn around your home is rolling. It consists of levelling the lawn with a special roller. It is important to make sure that the roller you use does not compact the soil too much. Its weight can be adjusted by filling with water or sand, depending on your needs.
